Wine of the Week | Torre Castillo 2009 [Red] The 2009 vintage has been getting rave reviews, in particular the reds from the northern half of the country. While Jumilla is clearly southern Spain, this '09 100% Monastrell red is also showing very well. A deep, dark purple color with aromas of ripe berry fruit (blueberry/blackberry), plums and a hint of spice, oak & dried garden herbs. Full bodied, hearty palate with healthy tannins (aka "ooph") and a lengthy finish. A terrific barbecue/hamburger wine which improves dramatically with decanting. Very good. [$L] |
