Wine of the Week | Dominio de la Vega Bobal 2009 [Red] The oft maligned Bobal grape has the stuff to make very drinkable wines. All that's needed is good vineyard management, moderate yields and proper winemaking. Bobal, extensively planted in southeastern Spain, is begining to show well and this wine is a good example. A very good barbeque wine. A deep dark, cherry red color. A nice blend of fruit and wood aromas on the nose: spice (cinnamon/clove), coconut and fresh berry fruit. On the palate these same flavors dominate: lots of oak, but with enough fresh berry fruit and acidity to keep things in balance. [$L] |
