Wine of the Week | Valsacro 2004 [Red] It's been a while since we've had a look at Valsacro. 2004 was a top vintage in Rioja and this superb wine shows why. Made from 50% Tempranillo, 40% Garnacha and 10% Mazuelo, and aged 12 months in mainly American oak; this superb wine shows why 2004 is considered a top vintage in Rioja. Deep, dark cherry red color. Great complexity on the nose with rich berry fruit, violets, spice & toasty oak along with a pleasant mineral scent. On the palate it's silky smooth, showing ripe black cherry and berry fruit overlaid with nicely integrated wood and spice flavors. Long finish, polished tannins. Excellent. [$H] |
