Wine of the Week | Protos Crianza 2005 [Red] Founded in 1927, Protos is a Ribera del Duero classic. The wines from this coop in many ways paved the way for the Ribera del Duero denomination. Oak aged and made from 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), Protos Crianza is a reliable performer, year after year. Very good and great value as well. Deep dark cherry red color. A nicely blended combination of fruit and wood on the nose: toasted oak, fresh-brewed coffee, spice (cinnamon/clove) and ripe, dark berry fruit (blueberry/blackberry). On the palate it's fresh with good fruit flavors (plum/blueberry) and lively tannins that should round out with a few more months of cellar time. [$M] |
