Wine of the Week | Marqués de Murrieta Ygay Reserva 2001 [Red] Fact is, the 2001 Rioja vintage continues to show well; and this classic-style Murrieta red is no exception. Made from Tempranillo (90%) with a bit of Mazuela y Graciano, it's smooth, rounded and drinking beautifully at this point. Excellent wine and a good match with prime rib of beef. Dark cherry/garnet color, showing a hint of brick along the edge. Lovely enveloping nose with ripe cherry fruit, vanilla, spice and a touch of cigar box/lead pencil. On the palate it's rich and very smooth with well ripened cherry flavors, spice and vanilla. A nice finish with beautifully rounded tannins, and terrific length. [$H] |
