Wine of the Week | Finca Malaveņa 2004 [Red] A blend of Syrah, Garnacha, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, this is one of the more interesting wines from the Ampurdan-Costa denomination in Northeast Spain. A wine with a bit of body, character and a decent dose of oak, it's a good bet to accompany grilled/barbecued pork or beef. Very good. Deep, dark cherry red color. Well defined nose shows a touch of old/varnished wood followed by sweet, jammy/plummy fruit and a touch of spice. On the palate it's medium-bodied with fresh acidity, ripe berry fruit, polished tannins and a nice, long finish. [$H] |
