Wine of the Week | Valsacro 2001 [Red] This recently released Valsacro shows off the best of the excellent 2001 vintage in Rioja. Made from an old vines mix of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo, and aged over 12 months in French & American oak barrels, this superb wine will work well with prime rib or roast beef. Dark cherry/ruby red color. Lovely complexity and depth on the nose with ripe berry fruit (blueberry) aromas, along with scents of spicy/toasted oak and dried flowers. On the palate it's medium bodied with ripe berry fruit, spice and coffee/chocolate flavors, smooth and silky tannins and a nice long finish. Excellent. [$H] |
