Wine of the Week

Patrick Murphy Bota Hauri 2015 [White]
Producer: Patrick Murphy Wines
Region: DO Jerez-Xéres-Sherry, Manzanilla

100% palomino from the Trinidad vineyard in the renowned Pago Macharnudo. This is classified as "vino de pasto" not fortified (11.5% ABV) nurtured "under flor" for 18 months in a used amontillado cask. Winemaker Santiago Jordi has a series of small-scale projects reviving a 17th century approach to sherry: estate and vintage specific wines, with the idea of retaining the character of both estate/vineyard & vintage. 860 bottles produced.

Bright light gold color, dried apricots/pears with a pleasant mineral enhanced background, notes of biological ageing (flor).
Fresh and easy on the palate with ripe pears, dry flowers and saline minerality. A very different take on sherry, goes down well, great with food. Excellent stuff.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
