Wine of the Week

Tio Diego Amontillado NV [Fortified]
Producer: Bodegas Valdespino
Region: DO Jerez-Xéres-Sherry, Manzanilla

100% palomino fino grown on "albariza" (chalk) soils in the famous Marcharnudo Alto vineyard, also the source of the classy Fino Inocente. Initially fermented under flor in oak casks, selected lots are transferred to a solera for further oxidative "crianza", bottled with an average age of some 18 years.

Intense earthy aromas of stunning complexity with walnuts, dried fruit, chocolate, old antique shop wood, beewsax...
Super smooth (despite an 18º ABV) with old wood, dried apricots, tobacco, a touch of saline minerality, enduring length on the palate. Mind boggling stuff, outstanding. Great with game dishes or on its own as an after dinner libation.
