la viña escondida 2018 [Red]
Producer: Bodegas Canopy
Region: DO Méntrida

100% garnacha ecologically grown on 90 year old vines in a vineyard perched on a rocky granite knoll in the Sierra de Gredos. Hand selected in the vineyard, lightly stomped in small vats, transferred to a 2,000 liter French oak tank, nurtured for 18 months.

Bursting with a myriad of aromas: dark berries/plums, hillside herbs & flowers, star anis, cinnamon bark with hints of rocky minerals.
Full bodied with mature fruit, a fascinating background flavor that brings birch beer to mind, fluid tannins, nice balance, awesome length. Outstanding.

In the past, Gredos garnachas haven't struck my fancy, being underpowered and often over priced. This one is totally different: rich & refined with vim & vigor and a fair price tag (30€)

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
