Vinsacro
Wine of the Week

Vinsacro 199+ [Red]
Producer: Bodegas Vinsacro
Region: DOC Rioja

40% vidau*, 50% tempranillo, 10% mazuelo grown on the rocky slopes of Monte Yerga. Nurtured in American oak barrels for 16 months.
vidau* are old vines parcels, planted with mixed grape varieties.

This a first: two vintages (1998 & 1999) of the same wine. Both are in great condition, superb yet markedly different.
The '99 is more classic Rioja with ripe & dried fruits, beeswax, spice and old wood. On the other hand, the '98 is supremely elegant and balanced with dark berry fruit, polished tannins and terrific persistence. Both are outstanding.

Owner/winemaker Amador Escudero has always said he builds these wines to last; spot on!

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
