Wine of the Week | Mauro Vendimia Seleccionada 1997 [Red] Sitting on the geographic edge of the Ribera del Duero region, Mauro has made consistently good, non-DO wines and this "special selection" is no exception. Limited production and a healthy price tag make this wine one few get to try, but this hearty red is a real winner that should work well with a prime rib of beef. Excellent. Dark cherry red color showing garnet along the edge. Potent yet elegant nose shows ripe jammy blackberry/cherry fruit, balsamics (bay leaf, eucaliptus) and spicy note of well integrated, quality oak. Full-bodied palate that is wonderfully smooth with great depth and complexity. Elegant, nicely balanced with terrific depth and length. [$H] |
