Wine of the Week | Gran Barquero Palo Cortado [Fortified] 100% Pedro Ximénez, from top vineyards of Montilla-Moriles DO (Sierra de Montilla and Moriles Altos). Selected barrels of oxidative aged wines spend some 25 years developing in American oak barrels. Delightful, showing sensationally complex aromas: walnuts, old wood, beeswax and a hint of dried fruit. Palo Cortados are to a certain degree "mystery wines" that don't quite fit to the usual parameters of amontillado or oloroso. These "off barrels" are set aside, the best become Palo Cortado. [$M] |
