Wine of the Week

Loco 2021 [White]
Producer: Bodegas Canopy
Region: DO Méntrida

100% garnacha blanca, old vines grown on sandy soils. 24 hour cold maceration, half of the must is fermented in 500 & 700 liter French oak barrels, the remainder in steel tanks on the lees, nurtured in barrel & tank for 8 months, weekly battonage.

Attractive, complex aromas: peach/guava, beeswax, dry grass, a touch of smoke and bracing minerality.
Rich, almost sweet with juicy peach/apricot fruit, licorice, honeysuckle, a hint of barrel smoke/spice & yeasty lees, nicely balanced acidity, immense finish. An excellent bottle of wine.

Not much garnacha blanca is planted in Méntrida, Canopy was fortunate to find a 65 year old vineyard to source the grapes.
The straight jacket on the bottle is a nice touch.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
