Wine of the Week | Finca Elez 2000 [Red] Finca Elez is one of the first of the new "Pago" [estate] Denominations. Grown on the estate's vineyards situated over 1,000 meters above sea level in Albacete, this Tempranillo, Cabernet, Merlot mix is a rich, full-bodied red with character, fruit and plenty of "oompf", and a good match for a hearty beef stew. Very Good, and a good value. Dark cherry red color with a purple/mahogany edge. Ripe fruit aromas show red plums and blackberries with a hint of spicy oak, and toasted coffee beans. The palate's rich with ample ripe berry fruit and potent tannins and good balance. Very good now, but should round out with a few more months of cellaring. [$M] |
