Wine of the Week

Gobernador Oloroso [Fortified]
Producer: Emilio Hidalgo
Region: DO Jerez-Xéres-Sherry, Manzanilla

100% palomino, after fementation the raw wine goes through a two-stage development process, first nurtured under "flor" (biological) for about 2 years then further developed in sherry "botas" (oxidative) for another 10 years.

Nice amber/mahogany color, classic oloroso aromas with a different twist (the "flor" factor) with dried fruit (sultanas), hazelnuts/almonds, chocolate and a hint of seaside salinity.
Easy on the palate, dry but savory with an abundance of nuts & dried fruits. Nice as an aperitif, but will work well with beef dishes or cheese. Add a splash to your favorite soup and enjoy. Excellent wine, a good introduction to oloroso at a modest price.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
