Wine of the Week | Fontal 1999 [Red] The higher elevations of the Fontana vineyards in the province of Cuenca provide ideal growing conditions for top quality Tempranillo grapes for this Fontal Crianza and it's more expensive "cousin": Quercus. This is an enjoyable, modestly priced oak-aged red that will work well with dishes like spaghetti with mushrooms or meat sauce. Bright garnet red color. Medium intensity nose with aromas of berries, coffee and toasty spices. The palate's rich and tasty driven by ripe berry fruit [blackberries], with a toasty/oaky/spicy component and nice crisp acidity. Very tasty, good value. [$M] |
