Wine of the Week | A Horquilla 2020 [White] Albillo real from very old vines (120 years) on the banks of the Duero River. A blend of grapes from two plots, one planted on dense clay, the other on lighter sandy soils. Fermented and nurtured for 11 months in barrel. Apples, pears, grass/mountain herbs, and mossy river gravel.
The name refers to the traditional way albillo is pruned, "a horquilla" = fork pruned. Excellent work by an old friend & tasting companion, Esteban Celemín. [$H] |
