Wine of the Week | Castillo de Almansa 2001 [Red] A couple of large co-ops make for a majority of the relatively unknown DO Almansa region's production. Bodegas Piqueras makes this cost-effective, unoaked Castillo de Almansa Colección 2001 from 100% Garnacha Tintorera [aka Alicante Bouschet]. A rich, potent young red that's good on its own and should also make for a super sangrÃa. Deep dark purple color. Powerful up-front fruit aromas [blackberry, raspberry] over a pleasant flowery background. The palate's dominated by rich berry fruit with crisp acidity and a nice fruit-driven finish.
