Wine of the Week | Louis XIV Ánforas 2021 [Red] A classic Alicante blend of 60% monastrell, 30% arcos & 10% bonicaire from old vines (planted in the 1960's) on sandy soils in the Paraje de Canyada area. Nurtured for 4 months in wood-fired pottery "amphorae". Dark berry fruit (black cherry/blueberry) with floral/herbal scents and a lingering saline/mineral background. Recently bottled, showing real promise. Kept the bottle for several days in the fridge; developed beautifully, smoothing out, gaining depth & flavor. A keeper. [$M] |
