![]() Wine of the Week | Guelbenzu Vierlas 2001 [Red] As of 2001, Guelbenzu no longer makes wine under the DO Navarra, but if this new "Vierlas" is any indication, the move appears to have been a good one. Made from a mix of Syrah, Merlot, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon & Garnacha with just 2 months in oak; this is a rich, full-bodied red that will go well with a broiled steak or chop. Very good. Dark bing cherry color with a slightly purplish tint. Rich ripe berry aromas [blackberry & blueberry] dominate the nose, along with a touch of wood and spice. The palate's rich and thick; powerful, yet silky with jammy fruit and a lingering hint of oak.
