Wine of the Week | El Mondongo 2015 [Red] 85% garnacha, 11% syrah, 4% other (garnacha blanca, moristel, bobal) from old vine plots (40/80 years) growing on limestone soils in Aragón (Calatayud area). After fermentation, the wine spends 18 months in on the lees in Flextank "eggs". Bottled "whole" without fining or filtering. Serious aromatics: upland herbs (thyme/rosemary) and black pepper, along with luscious red berry fruit (raspberry/cherry/red currant). Another superb wine from owner/winemaker Norrel Robertson MW, El Escocés Volante (The Flying Scot). [$M] |
