Wine of the Week | Laurona 1999 [Red] The Tarragona-Falset sub-region is adjacent to the renouned DO Priorat area. René Barbier, one of Priorat's leading winemakers is the man responsible for Laurona, a warm and rich Mediterranean red that's great on its own or to accompany a nice griled steak or chop. Excellent wine, good value. Medium dark cherry red color with a purple tint. The nose shows wonderfully ripe blackberry fruit along with bay leaves and a touch of spice (thyme). Medium to full-bodied palate, spicy, rich and tasty with fine ripe cherry-berry fruit. Good acidity, polished tannins and excellent length. [$M] |
