Vinsacro
Wine of the Week

Vinsacro Dioro 2010 [Red]
Producer: Bodegas Escudero
Region: DOC Rioja

"Vidau" (a field blend) of very old vines: tempranillo, garnacha, mazuelo, graciano & others; extended maceration on the skins (30 days); malolactic in barrels, nurtured 17 months in French oak.

Elegant & complex aromas swell from the glass: plums & blueberries, subtle spice (cardamom/nutmeg), cigar box and a hint of fine leather.
Superb palate: bright fruit flavors, spice, tobacco and chocolate with super smooth tannins and serious persistence. A wonderful wine with a future.

This is a follow up tasting; wrote about it here 7 years ago (same wine, a trademark issue required a name change from Valsacro to Vinsacro). The wine has evolved beautifully. No sign of old age, a keeper.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
