Wine of the Week | Gran Barquero Amontillado [Fortified] 100% pedro ximénez grapes from Sierra de Montilla & Moriles Altos. Nurtured more than 10 years under "flor" (biological), plus at least 15 additional years in barrels (oxidative); both stages in 500/600 liter "botas" of American oak. A beautiful golden mahogany color with an incredibly complex nose & palate: toasted almonds, dried fruit (apricots/apple chips), orange peel, nutmeg, walnuts... the list goes on. An outstanding example of amontillado and reasonably priced to boot. A genuine eye-opener, and a great way to get into Montilla-Moriles's truly amazing wines. [$H] |
