Wine of the Week | Burgo Viejo Reserva 2016 [Red] A traditional Rioja blend: 85% tempranillo, 10% graciano & 5% mazuelo (carignan), nurtured 18 months in oak barrels (50% French, 50% American). Plenty of well ripened fruit upfront (blueberry/blackberry), a touch of spice (cardamom/clove), a bit of vanilla and a hint of smoke. The wood's there, subtle, doesn't get in the way. Unmistakably Rioja, will certainly find favor with Rioja lovers and would be a perfect introduction for newcomers. Very drinkable now, and will develop nicely for years to come. Food friendly and easy drinking. [$M] |
