Wine of the Week | Viņa Alberdi 2015 [Red] 100% tempranillo grapes from the winery's own vineyards (vines over 40 years old). Aged 2 years in American oak barrels: first year in new oak, second year in 4 year old barrels, racked every 6 months. Bottled September 2018. Good intensity on the nose with a nice balance between fruit (blueberry/plum) and oak ageing (nutmeg/cinnamon/cedar). On the palate there's blackberry fruit, cocoa, black licorice & smooth tannins with a lasting, pleasure-driven finish. Viņa Alberdi is La Rioja Alta's entry level "crianza" wine, with all the legal requirements to be a "reserva". An excellent value and as food friendly as it gets. [$M] |
