Wine of the Week | Luis Caņas Crianza 2016 [Red] 95% tempranillo, 5% garnacha, aged one year in used oak barrels (60% French, 40% American), average age of the vines: 30 years. A benchmark "crianza" from the Rioja Alavesa sub-region. A lot going on here: blueberries & cherries, licorice, hay & autumn leaves, gently spiced with nicely integrated wood elements (cedar, smoke, nutmeg, cinnamon). Plums & blackberries show up on the palate, with balanced acidity, smooth tannins and a lasting follow through. Excellent wine, a pleasure to drink, great value. [$M] |
