Wine of the Week | Burgo Viejo Reserva 2014 [Red] A typical Rioja blend: 85% tempranillo, 10% graciano & 5% mazuelo (carignan), aged 18 months in a 50/50 mix of French & American oak barrels. A bright ruby red color, jammy dark berry fruit (blueberry, blackberry) with a touch of spice (nutmeg) and cocoa. Smooth and mouth filling palate with serious, surprisingly silky tannins. Great food wine. Excellent. Serious and approachable, unmistakably Rioja and an excellent value to boot. Very drinkable now, should cellar well for at least another 8 to 10 years. [$M] |
