Wine of the Week | Gran Reserva 904 2011 [Red] Recent release from La Rioja Alta: 89% tempranillo, 11% graciano, aged 70 months in used American oak barrels, bottled Nov 2016. Incredibly complex nose: ripe bramble berry fruit, dark chocolate, cigar box & spice (nutmeg, cardamom, allspice). Pure elegance on the palate, super smooth tannins, blackberry jam, chocolate & spice and a citrus/cardamom component = freshness & great persistence. Outstanding. Rioja Alta's Gran Reserva 904 has always been something special for me. The new 2011 vintage is up to the standard of my all time favorite Spanish red wine: the 2005 vintage of GR 904. [$H] |
