Wine of the Week | Finca San Martín 2017 [Red] Torre de Oña is the "boutique winery", part of La Rioja Alta group, located in the Rioja Alavesa sub-region. 100% Tempranillo, aged for 16 months in a mix of French & American oak. Nice dark cherry color, dark berry fruit aromas (blueberry) with oaky overtones (spice/vanilla). The palate brings fruit (blueberry/blackberry) & a slightly herbaceous note. Tannins still prominent, as is the oak. Needs bottle time. 2017 was a difficult vintage in the area: spring frosts & a dry hot growing season made for uneven ripening. The wines need time to develop.
