Wine of the Week | Valserrano Gran Reserva 2008 [Red] This classic Rioja Alavesa producer (founded in 1880) has long been a favorite. This Gran Reserva from the awkward 2008 vintage is a must for any wine lover. Mainly Tempranillo (90%) with a bit of Graciano, aged 36 months in a mix of French and American oak. A Rioja classic, updated, simply wonderful. Bright cherry/garnet color, still looks very young. Ripe yet fresh berry fruit (blueberry/cherry) on the nose with a gentle touch of spice (clove/cardamom) and a hint of leather. Smooth, smooth, smooth on the palate with plenty of fruit, great complexity, polished tannins and tremendous length. A winner. [$H] |
