Wine of the Week | Aster 2009 [Red] Aster, the Ribera del Duero operation of La Rioja Alta, planted Tempranillo vines on a new plot in 1991, but no wine was released as Aster until the 2000 vintage. The 2009 is 100% Tempranillo, aged 22 months in French oak (70% new). A full bodied, concentrated wine, still showing quite young. Very good, still needs some cellar time. Dark cherry/garnet color. Nicely ripe on the nose with mature plum/berry fruit, spice, chocolate/coffee, cigarbox and a touch of leather. Full bodied palate with ripe berry fruit, licorice, vanilla & spice, hefty tannins and good length. [$M] |
