Wine of the Week | Castaño Monastrell 2001 [Red] Made from the Mediterranean Monastrell grape [aka Mourvèdre], this cost effective young wine is an excellent example of the possibilities of this quality red grape. A bright, fresh wine with body and noticable tannins; it should work well with barbequed spare ribs. Dark garnet/purple color. Beautiful fruit driven nose of blackberries & raspberries with nice flowery overtones. The palate's powerful and tannic; smooth and fruity at the same time. Good balance and excellent length. Very good. [$L] |
