Wine of the Week | Pittacum 2008 [Red] An excellent example of a quality DO Bierzo red: 100% Mencía, aged 6 months in American oak barrels. A hearty, solid red that will only get better with a few more months of "bottle rest". Great value, will go really well with a grilled steak. Deep, dark purple/red color. Ripe yet fresh berry fruit (blueberry/blackberry), smoke/peat on the nose & a hint of aromatic spice (bay leaf?). Medium bodied, silky smooth palate with nicely ripened tannins, and good length. A very good wine for the money. [$M] |
