Wine of the Week | Alonso del Yerro 2009 [Red] A new release from this "boutique-style" Ribera del Duero producer. Made from 100% Tempranillo grapes from their own old vine parcels; aged 12 months in French oak (25% new). Excellent wine, still very young, needs bottle time. Deep, dark purple red color. Great intensity on the nose with ripe dark berry fruit (blackberry/blueberry), smoky/spicy with a scent of fresh herbs (aloe-vera) and dark chocolate. Fresh, dense, mouthfilling palate with sweet tannins, good acidity and terrific length. Still "tight", but a pleasure to drink. [$M] |
