Wine of the Week | Patricia Amontillado NV [Fortified] I have Edgar Allen Poe and his macabre tale, "A Cask Of Amontillado", to thank for introducing me to this enological wonder. For me, this "double-aged" wine (up to 20 years), made from the local Pedro Ximénez grape is hard to beat for depth & complexity. Enjoy it on it's own, with nuts, cold cuts or strong cheese - or as an after dinner "digestif". A lovely amber color with an orange tint. Tremendously complex nose with dried fruits & nuts (almond/pecan), caramel, Scotch orange marmalade and vanilla-tinged spice. Equally complex on the palate: nuts, caramel and orange peel. Great length and very smooth despite a heavy dose of alcohol. Excellent. [$M] |
