Wine of the Week | Torre de Oņa 2007 [Red] Torre de Oņa is the flagship wine from the Torre de Oņa estate in Páganos near Labastida. Made from 95% Tempranillo with 5% Mazuelo, this "reserva" has become a regional classic, unmistakeably Rioja. Very good indeed. Medium dark bing cherry color, still looking very young. The nose is a touch funky when first opened, but this quickly dissipates to a pleasant blend of ripe berry fruit, smoke, spice (pepper), leather, cigar box and an intriguing scent of bitter almonds (Amaretto). On the palate it's fresh & medium bodied with good acidity, fruit (blueberry), graphite/toast, leather and a hint of forest floor/mushrooms. Smooth tannins and good length. [$H] |
