Wine of the Week | Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2008 [Red] Abadía Reuerta, built around a 12th century abbey, is nothing short of spectacular. Selección Especial is their flagship wine, made mainly from Tempranillo, with some Cabernet Sauvignon and a smaller percentage of Merlot. An excellent wine that will show well for another 5+ years. A nice dark cherry red color. There's plenty of up front fruit (cherry/blackberry) on the nose, with nicely integrated wood scents: graphite/india ink and spice (mace/cinnamon). Smooth and easy on the palate, medium bodied, tasty fruit with ripe tannins and a long finish. Very Ribera del Duero, even if this "fringe estate" lies outside the region's official boundaries.
