Wine of the Week

Manuel Quintano 2004 [Red]
Producer: Bodegas Solagüen
Region: DOC Rioja

In the late 18th century, a cleric from Labastida brought Bordeaux barrel ageing "technology" to Rioja. This "updated" Rioja from Solagüen is a tribute to the man and his contribution.
Made from 70% Tempranillo, 30% Garnacha, aged 30 months in used American oak barrels; this is a big, complex Rioja Reserva with a modern touch. Excellent.

Deep dark color, still looking very young. Dark berry fruit (blueberry/cherry), spice, dark chocolate and well integrated wood aromas predominate a wonderfully deep and complex nose. Full & rich, yet elegant and fresh on the palate. Polished tannins, full of flavor, balanced, complex and terrific length.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
