Wine of the Week | Clos Erasmus 2008 [Red] This hard to get, high priced wine from Priorat is something special. Earlier vintages often too much, not only in price, but also in everything else: ripeness, extraction, oak, tannin, alcohol... The '08, however, is something else: great depth and complexity, elegance, balance. It's got it all. Outstanding. Deep dark, almost black in color. Very intense & complex nose with ripe berry fruit (blackberries/plums), dry leaves & minerals, toast, chocolate, cigar box/tobacco. Full, rich, powerful palate, with polished (almost sweet) tannins, ripe berries, cocoa, tea leaves... Beautifully balanced and long, very long, on the finish. [$H] |
