Wine of the Week | Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva 1987 [White] López de Heredia is a genuine classic, making Rioja wines the way the were once made. This 23 year old barrel aged white is probably the best way to appreciate (and enjoy) this almost forgotten style. Wonderful stuff! A bright, almost shiny, golden/brassy color give a hint of what's inside. A hugely complex nose of dried fruit & nuts, beeswax, paraffin, linden flower tea leaves, fine leather... The palate's bright and not in the least heavy with heaps leathery bottle "bouquet" and a lovely nutty/beeswax flavor. Long, very complex. Simply outstanding. [$H] |
