Wine of the Week | Tio Pepe [Fortified] Often it seems the wine world has lost sight of one of the world's most interesting wines: the solera-aged sherries from the Jerez region. This attractively priced "fino" sherry is good place to get reacquainted with these incredibly complex wines. Very good on its own or with food,and a great value. Serve well chilled. A clean pale golden color with an intriguing nose: a slighly salty/umami character with the nuttiness typical of "flor" aged sherries. On the palate it's crisp and fresh with bit of an alcohol edge. The taste is rich and nutty (pecans/hazlenuts) with a fresh, pleasantly bitterish finish. Very good indeed. [$L] |
