Wine of the Week

Allende 1998 [Red]
Producer: Finca Allende
Region: DOC Rioja

Made by winemaker Miguel Angel de Gregorio, who has built up a sterling reputation in recent years, this oak-aged red is an excellent example of the new-generation Riojas. It's got color, body, fruit, flavor; and it's a good match for roast beef or prime rib. Excellent.

Medium dark cherry/garnate color with a purple tint. Rich ripe fruit nose shows plums and berries, accompanied by vanilla/spice, chocolate with an interesting predominance of tertiary cigar box and leather aromas. Rich full-bodied palate with cherry/berry fruit and [again] lots of leathery tertiary sensations. Good length, smooth tannins and ready to drink.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
